Africa holds over one-third of the world's livestock population, and livestock contributes up to 40% of the continent's agricultural GDP.[1] Yet despite this, Africa accounts for only 6% of global meat production.[2] Across Sub-Saharan Africa, food losses in the agricultural supply chain sit at nearly 20%, the highest of any region in the world.[3]
The numbers tell a story that is hard to ignore. A continent rich in land, labour, and livestock, feeding over 1.4 billion people, yet consistently producing below its potential. By 2050, the demand for poultry meat in Sub-Saharan Africa alone is projected to increase by over 200%.[4]
The resources exist. The talent exists. What has been missing is the right space for the right people to come together.
Africa Meat Expo 2026 is that space.
Meat is woven into the fabric of African life. It is present at every celebration, every negotiation, every gathering that matters. Across the continent, it carries cultural weight, nutritional significance, and economic importance that no policy brief can fully capture. This expo honours that reality, and builds on it.
Hosted by AirMeat at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, this is the continent's first dedicated pan-African platform for the full meat, livestock, seafood, and dairy value chain.
This is not a showcase event. It is a working gathering where farmers, traders, researchers, processors, and investors sit alongside international delegates to address real challenges and drive the industry forward.
Foot and Mouth Disease continues to threaten the stability of Southern Africa's livestock industry. When outbreaks occur, they don't just harm animals they shut down trade routes, halt meat processing facilities, and put thousands of farming jobs at risk. The ripple effects touch everyone: reduced protein availability in local markets, loss of export revenue, and increased food prices for consumers already facing economic pressure.
That's exactly why the Africa Meat Expo 2026 has made biosecurity a central focus. We're creating a space where veterinary scientists can present their latest research, where tech companies can showcase monitoring solutions, and where farmers can learn directly from those who've successfully contained outbreaks. This isn't about one organization solving the problem, it's about bringing the right people into the same room so they can share what's actually working on the ground.
We are calling on researchers, veterinarians, agri-tech innovators, and farmers to join our 2026 panels. Share your technology, present your findings, and help us build a more resilient meat industry.

Some venues host events. Others carry them. Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium belongs to the second category.
Built on the shores of North End Lake, this R2 billion world-class facility was purpose-built as one of three coastal stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, hosting eight matches across the tournament. It has since hosted the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, elite Springbok rugby, and the largest events on the Eastern Cape calendar.
With a capacity of 46,000 and 150 corporate hospitality suites, its striking petal-shaped roof and modern infrastructure make it a statement of ambition for the Africa Meat Expo 2026.
